Junior Swimming Lessons
Junior swimming lessons take place three times week: Tuesdays, 5-7pm, Wednesdays 4-5pm and Saturdays, 10-1pm. Term Time only.

The Lifeguard Rookies Club
This a great opportunity to develop basic lifesaving skills including water safety, self-rescue, resuscitation, basic first aid
and the functions of lifesaving equipment. The club is run on Wednesdays 6-7pm and open to 5 to 12 year olds with awards given
as each stage of the programme is successfully completed. There is also a club for 12 to 16 year olds in which they can progress
to NARS Bronze, Silver and Gold Cross and then on to pool lifeguarding. If you can swim unaided and are interested in joining either
club please contact us at the Leisure Centre.
Dolphins Swimming Club
The Islay and Jura Dolphins is a junior swim club run by trained volunteers and coaches who live locally on the Islands.
Members of the Dolphins Swimming club have the opportunity to compete in National competitions on the mainland including Oban,
Dunoon and Glasgow. Club training sessions are Mondays and Tuesdays after school and Saturday afternoons. Term time only.
Masters' Swimming Club
Want to make friends? Gain personal success? Achieve excellence in swimming? And most of all have fun? If so, this is the club for you.
The Masters' meet twice a week and anyone is welcome to join as long as you are aged 21 and over and can swim at least 2 lengths. Term time only.
Canoe Club
Want to learn new skills in a canoe and how to cope with capsizing? Then come and join in our pool sessions 6pm to 7.30pm on alternate
Friday evenings. Juniors and adults welcome. Contact Dave on 01496 810880 for more details.
After School Clubs programme (primary and secondary schools)
Take place 3.30 to 4.45pm and include a variety of activities such as junior fitness, beauty therapy, life guarding, table tennis and much more!

Pool Lifeguarding
The Leisure Centre holds lifeguarding courses throughout the year. Minimum age is 16 years of age. Casual work at the pool available on successful

SVQ Sport and Recreation Level 2 (16 to 18 year olds)
Looking for a career in leisure, the forces or emergency services? We run an established and recommended training programme to gain valuable
qualifications, skills and work experience to progress in to any of these areas. The Modern Apprentice programme includes SVQ level 2 Sport and Recreation,
STA Pool Lifeguard, Health and Safety approved 4 day First Aid Course, STA Swimming Teachers Certificate, Welcome Host Customer Care and Health and
Safety Awareness. Employment within the leisure centre is often available on completion of the course. Training wage and all courses paid for.

Looking for a career in leisure, the forces or emergency services? First Aid courses are organised independently by Isobel who offers one-day
Appointed Person and 4-day First Aid at work courses either at the leisure centre or conveniently at your workplace.

Parents/carers & unemployed club session
Parents/carers & unemployed sessions provide an excellent way for people to improve mental and physical health increase connections with the local community and reduce social isolation. Come along an enjoy fitness activities, swimming and relax in the sauna. Learning opportunities also exist to increase skills qualifications and confidence. There is also no need to worry about child care or transport as this session offers a free crèche and transport from Port Charlotte all for or a fixed price of £4.00 or £2.20 for swim only. Parent/carers and unemployed sessions are held every Tuesday between 12.30pm and 2.30pm. For more information contact the Mactaggart Leisure Centre on 01496 810767.
Woman’s club session
Woman’s club session gives woman the opportunity to increase mental and physical health. It is also a good way to meet new people and/or socialise whilst keeping active. All activities available at the Mactaggart Leisure Centre can be used during this session such as the gym, swim and sauna. Free transport from Port Charlotte is also provided.
